Imaging Core Facility - MMG

The mission of the Imaging Core Facility (ICF) applied to the exploration of small animals is to enable research teams at the MMG (Marseille Medical Genetics UMR 1251) to access the most advanced imaging technologies. It contributes to the histological exploration of patient cells as well as animal models and to a better understanding of rare genetic diseases. The use of equipment is carried out by a common system of online booking.

Currently, the core facility is equipped with a confocal laser scanning microscope (ZEISS LSM800), a digital slide scanner (ZEISS Axio Scan.Z1), a live imaging microscope (ZEISS Observer Z1 and a high speed camera), an ApoTome microscope, a fluorescent binocular microscope (ZEISS Axiozoom VM16) and several epifluorescent microscopes (straight or reverse Leica or ZEISS). Tissues can also be prepared using a cryostat, vibratome or microtome. All users are trained to use the equipment and no prior imaging experience is necessary.

PICsL - Joint Imaging Platform at the Luminy site

The PICsL platform offers a variety of cutting-edge imaging systems (e.g. multiphoton imaging, confocal imaging, light sheet microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, electronic microscopy) to a wide community of scientists in the fields of cellular development biology, immunology and neurobiology. Founded in 2002 within the framework of a partnership between two biology institutes - the Marseille-Luminy centre for immunology (CIML) and the Marseille institute for developmental biology (IBDM) - the PICsL platform is recognised at national level as an “Infrastructure in biology, health and agronomy” (IBISA) and is part of the national France-Biolmaging infrastructure. In addition to providing access and support to users, the platform also trains students and provides theory and practical lessons to ensure the continuous training of academic researchers and private companies. It also benefits from excellent communication between research and development teams at the IBDM, the Marseille-Luminy centre for immunology (CIML) and the Fresnel institute in Marseille, as well as the technological transfer of the national infrastructure.
